The EXMUX® 3500 provides a simple one-box solution that eliminates the need to run parallel voice, serial and IP data networks, converging two important traffic types onto one communications infrastructure. This innovative concept offers cost-effective and feature-rich solutions that bridges the gap between the old TDM legacy world and the modern IP world, achieving the best of both worlds.

The EXMUX® 3500 can support any network topology such as linear, star, rings and mesh setups. The device uses the latest TDM over IP technology and an intergraded Layer 2 Managed Switch, which allows the unit to support legacy interfaces such as T1/E1, RS-232, RS-485, RS-422, V.35, X.21, G.703, C37.94, and various voice interfaces, along with native IP solutions. A two wire telephone service channel is incorporated to provide in-band voice communication to any EXMUX® 3500 connected to the network. Latency can be as low as 5ms. In addition to the low latency, designed into the EXMUX® 3500 is a distinctive “Hitless Switching” mechanism that allows the device to recover from a path failure without losing a single data bit, making it ideal to run critical real-time applications such as SCADA,Teleprotection and Relaying over an IP network.

The EXMUX® 3500 comes with an advance visual graphical Network Management Software (VNMS) for Operations, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P). The VNMS is intuitive and user-friendly, making configuration, channel mapping and diagnostics virtually effortless.

EXMUX® 3500
Advantages/Benefits

Substation legacy and IP devices on a common Ethernet communications platform

  • A one-box solution converging two different traffic types onto the same communications infrastructure
  • DS0 grooming functionality, allowing individual circuits from any legacy T1/E1 system to be connected to any interface port within the EXMUX® 3500network or to another PCM network.
  • Real-time critical applications over IP networks

High bandwidth communications backbone

  • Gigabit Ethernet/IP Communications Backbone, providing about twice the bandwidth of an OC-12/STM-4
  • Benefits of shared bandwidth and automatic recovery of a packet network
  • "Hitless Switching” – zero-data-loss path protection where critical data is always protected.

Cyber Security

  • SNMPv3 for authentication and encryption
  • Cyber security meeting NERC CIP requirements
  • User Access Management System.

Cost Saving

  • Easier deployment and maintenance than full TDM networks
  • No need to maintain multiple networks which reduces maintenance costs.
  • Cheaper solution than SONET/SDH
